German Renewable Energy Regulations

German law (“Gesetz zur Neuregelung des Rechtsrahmens für die Förderung der Stromerzeugung aus erneuerbaren Energien”, or Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG for short; the law defining the legal framework for promoting electricity generation from renewable energy sources) governs the preferred means of feeding electricity from renewable sources into the public mains grid and guarantees the producer fixed rates of payment.

Current rates of payment for photovoltaic systems under EEG, as of 31.10.2012:

Technical requirements for already existing and new photovoltaic systems under EEG since 01.01.2012:

Renewable energy regulations (EEG) have always applied to every kind of renewable energy sources, determining the appropriate conditions for installing the right kind of system and the payment/subsidy for the energy produced by these systems. .

Type of Plant Implementation tasks technical interface to the common carrier Duty to retrofit for existing plants § 66
für Frist
All PV-plants
> 100 kW
Power reducement incl. transfer of actual value yes all PV-plants 30.06.2012
PV-plants
> 30 kW and
<= 100 kW
Power reducement yes PV-plants after 01.01.2009 31.12.2013
PV-Plants
<= 30 kW
Power reducement yes none none
alternatively: permanent power reducement to 70% no none none

Technical implementation of these requirements is the business of the system operator, who merely has to ensure that the technical interface with the mains provider is present and operational. When planning your photovoltaic system, we consider the operator’s obligations and offer you what we consider to be the most cost-effective solution.
